Top 10 misspelled words in business
1. Independent. Not independant.
2. Personnel. Not personel, don't take it personally.
3. Principal / Principle. Principal: head, leader or main party. Principle: a rule or guideline.
4. Affect / Effect. When used as verbs, affect means influence (e.g. increased sales affect the bottom line), while effect means to bring about (e.g. the Chairman effected great changes). Affect as a noun usually refers to an emotional state of mind and is not commonplace in business writing. Effect as a noun means result (e.g. the effect was felt around the world).
5. All ready, Already. All ready means everyone or everything is ready. Already means previously.
6. Canvas / Canvass. Canvas: cloth or fabric, often used for painting. Canvass: to survey.
7. Separate. Not seperate. Two e's are separated by 2 a's. Unlike Desperate, which does -per- in it's centre.
8. Referral. Not referal.
9. Questionnaire. Double n - not questionaire.
10. Committee. Congratulations, doubles all round (mm tt ee).
